Vitamin C is often taken and the effect of preventing colds in the general population is not significant. Taking it regularly may shorten the duration of a cold, but starting vitamin C after you have already experienced uncomfortable symptoms does not have this effect. Experimental studies by the medical community to verify the therapeutic effect of vitamin C on colds have not proved its efficacy, and there is currently no strong evidence to support the use of vitamin C to treat colds.
