Shanghai Fashion Week has been on the rise for 18 years
18 years ago, Shanghai Fashion Week, rooted in China’s fashion capital, was born. In more than 10 years of development, the brands of Shanghai Fashion Week catwalk have developed from 50 shows a year to more than 100 shows a season today, of which original independent designers account for more than 70%. At the same time, it has also cultivated many local Chinese designers who have become famous on the international stage, and has been shortlisted for many international awards such as “LVMH Young Designers” and “International Wool Mark Award”.
This time, Shanghai Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2022, with the theme of “Future Builders”, allows the new generation of “Future Builders” to give full play to their imagination and boldly express their inner declarations with tense visual symbols.

Return to the “future builder” of the domestic show
THIS SEASON, MASHAMA, THE YOUNGEST CHINESE DESIGNER TO APPEAR ON THE OFFICIAL SCHEDULE OF PARIS FASHION WEEK, WILL LEAD THE OPENING SHOW OF FASHION WEEK, WHICH IS ALSO THE FIRST TIME THE BRAND HAS RETURNED TO THE DOMESTIC STAGE.
Designer Masha Ma admitted:
Ten years ago, the brand first chose to launch in Paris, when it was possible to see the obvious gap and difference between the two fashion weeks, whether it was the process, the system, or the ability of the participating design brands themselves. But now, in terms of hardware strength, the gap between Shanghai and Paris Fashion Week is narrowing in a rapid way; In terms of software strength, Chinese designers have begun to create a truly Chinese definition of fashion. ”
“Today, when the Chinese market and creativity are booming, we have ushered in an era where Chinese fashion designers can truly define themselves locally. For Chinese designers, the biggest opportunity lies in the opening of the Chinese market, and Chinese brands have ushered in a huge inflection point, which can verify the power of design and creativity in the development of the market, so as to truly build a brand.
MASHAMA Spring/Summer 2022 Collection, with no time limit and no gender distinction, creates a series of avant-garde and romantic fashions, shaping and defining the image of female elites in the new era.
Also returning to Shanghai Fashion Week is Chinese designer brand PRONOUNCE, which released its Spring/Summer 2022 collection on the official London Fashion Week calendar, regrouping it into this season’s Shanghai Fashion Week.
This season, the brand is themed “Circle ○”, and the brand continues the topic of “all living beings” that the brand has been exploring in the casting of the big show: forty-seven faces, they come from different fields, including baristas, illustrators, skateboarders, artists, tattoo artists…
In this show, the transformation of identity is also fluid. The unchanged nature of the models’ own faces and the instant transformation of identities in specific scenes have also become a “circle”. This is also the largest “Faces of Beings” project in the brand’s history.
London-based designer Wang Fengchen also chose to release the first womenswear collection of his eponymous brand Feng Chen Wang in Shanghai, with a structural cut that conveys elegance, boldness and avant-garde, skillfully blending fashion and casual feeling, highlighting the multi-dimensional sportswear style.
In addition, fashion brands such as RUOHAN, a fashion brand founded in New York in 2020, and JE Cai, an independent designer brand that has only been established for a year, have returned to Shanghai Fashion Week this season.

The first chapter of romantic China came to the Lei Hu living room, the two-story space restored the first released designer brand YIRANTIAN blockbuster shooting art set, Zhang Jiacheng used his way, told the love story of the traditional Chinese family in the sixties of the last century, YIRANTIAN to the 50s and 60s of the 20th century military and factory women composed of traditional families as a series of design inspiration, continuing the previous design language, compatible with classic and trendy two seemingly conflicting concepts, Full of sensual soft but resolute silhouette to show Chinese love.
THE SECOND CHAPTER OF NOMAMOMAN’S DRAWS INSPIRATION FROM THE FEELINGS OF THE WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL TEAM AND THE MOOD OF THE TIMES. “In the era when the curtain of reform and opening up was first opened and China was struggling to catch up, the spirit of women’s volleyball was like a banner, allowing the world to see the miracle of China. The third chapter begins with an excerpt from the drama “Secret Love Peach Blossom Origin”, in which SHUSHU/TONG draws inspiration from the “Age of Letters” and brings the teenage throbbing of female students to the letter paper, conveying the thick retro beauty of the 80s of the 20th century.
The final chapter, performed by YUEQI QI, is inspired by the Kunqu opera “Shocking Dreams”, and the designer draws on Chinese opera elements, blending the meaning of Chinese culture with the brand’s aesthetic concept.
In addition to Chinese romance, martial arts, classical poetry, traditional drama, myths and legends have also become a constant source of inspiration for designers.
Based on classic images from martial arts movies, Angel Chen presents a unique fashion feast for the public. Bamboo shadows and oil-paper umbrellas display a unique picture of oriental martial arts. The designer presents bright colors such as maple orange, green bamboo green, sand yellow, chalcedony blue and other bright colors on denim, canvas and mesh fabrics through tie-dyeing, ink splashing, color spraying and other processes, and vividly presents the oriental charm in traditional culture through fashion works.
Ban Xiao Xue diverges from “May people last”, and the series of clothing does not have a fixed external image, it is a state of constant change, exploring one’s own destination and the original meaning of life.
Sweetpotato Chiu collaborated with the Guangdong Cantonese Opera to release the third work “Peach Feast”, which presents the gorgeous scene of the banquet of the immortal Yao Pond, combining myths and legends while interpreting modern aesthetics. The costumes extract auspicious symbolic elements of traditional culture, such as fairy peaches, pomegranates, bergamots, pine branches, etc., and display them on each show piece with pure handmade skills.
The REFUSE CLUB Spring/Summer 2022 collection is themed “Lunacide”. The rabbit print became an iconic element, and in Eastern mythology, the rabbit is related to the moon god Chang’e, which is more feminine. The “limitations” of the costume are intertwined with the narrative, painting the prelude to the East.

The theme of this show is UNISEX genderless as the carrier, which echoes the idealism of gender equality between ambiguous genders such as gender-specific groups, specific gender ranges, and specific gender requirements in the new era. The brand manager, Han Huohuo, uses his unique aesthetics and style to create fashionable wardrobes for young people of Generation Z.
